What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is about being fully aware of whatever is happening in the present moment while bringing calm and focused awareness to one’s mind & body and living in the here and now. And doing so without judgement of oneself or others.
When we spend too much time rehearsing & anticipating the future (such as worrying about tomorrow’s meeting, daydreaming about an upcoming vacation or making mental notes about what is needed at the grocery store) we can become anxious. When we spend too much time rehashing the past (like a mistake we made yesterday or last week’s argument with your spouse) we can become depressed. The truth is that the present moment is the only place where life may be fully lived. We can miss out on the moments of our life when we are not fully present for them.
